Whirlpool Whispure Air Purifier, HEPA Air Cleaner, AP51030K
Whirlpool air cleaners have one of those companies that you know they make a lot of home electronics, but when it comes to looking for air purifiers you don’t even think of them. If this is the case then you are missing out on an extremely good home air purifier for the price. Matter fact, this is my best bang for the buck air purifier. A certain Honeywell air purifier is shortly behind it, but this one just has too much for it. Whirlpool air purifiers pretty much is widely known for this air cleaner and the Whirlpool Whispure 450 air purifier.
The Whirlpool Whispure Air Purifier 51030k is basically an upscale version of the 450, but in a way that surpasses all others for the price. I am not saying that it uses every technology available to complete clean your house of everything, but for the price you cannot beat it! It is hard to explain many things in text, but I will show you many things about this air purifier below. Then you will see what I am talking about when I state it is the best for the buck.
I will show you all the technologies and ratings in this section. This information is very important for you discovering how to correctly choose quality air purifiers for the right price. You should know exactly what you are getting when you purchase something and I will show you what you need to know within this review.
One of the things I forgot to mention at the beginning is the fact that Consumer Reports has this in their top 20 list for air purifiers. This means a lot since they don’t use technologies like the UV air filter, which kills 99% of bacteria, viruses and mold spores. Of course, this air purifier is one of the best for dust, pollen, smoke and pet dander, which many people need a lot of help with within their homes.
On the outside you see a plastic exterior that could look like every other air purifier out there, but you will know differences in a couple things including the air filter that is within the air cleaner. You’ll notice some cool things like the way the air goes in the front and out the top. This way you can lean it against a wall to save space or to hide your use of an air purifier. You also get a retractable power cord.
Now one of the easiest ways to rate an air purifier is by looking at the Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR). I have stated this before because a certified team of specialist has come up with this rating and it is written so small on the boxes. Many of the companies don’t want you to look at it. Funny enough Whirlpool isn’t huge either, but it is easier to find on the box. It is rated as 315 overall for (dust, smoke and pollen). Most air purifiers in this price range are unable to reach 300 without the use of 1-2 more technologies in use within the air cleaner.
Dust – 325
Pollen – 400
Smoke – 315
another good things to know about the air cleaners is the fact that you can leave it running while you are not away guilt free. The guilt would be when you get your electricity bill for the month, but since the Whirlpool Whispure Air Purifier is energy star rated you will be energy efficient. I am not saying it doesn’t use energy, but I am saying it uses very little for the amount of power it pushes out.
The controls on this air purifier are quite well made. They have easy to push buttons that are flat to the surface of the air purifier. You will notice some cool features like the carbon air filter and hepa air filter meters. They show you how much life is left in the air filter. It is a pretty good guess, but I like to take a look at it myself. You also have things like sleep mode that put it on lowest fan setting for a period of time. You can even lock the buttons if you have a dog or small children around.
You get 4 fan speeds with the Whirlpool Whispure Air Purifier. Each one moves a particular amount of air and will make a certain amount of noise to do it. For the most part, the speed will go as high as you need it. As you can see with the CADR it will move plenty fast. It is a pretty quiet air purifier, but it is not quietest. That is why it is always good to only use the highest setting when you are away or need instant air purification.
Fan Speed 1 – 40 decibels
Fan Speed 2 – 43 decibels
Fan Speed 3 – 46 decibels
Fan Speed 4 – 50 decibels
Charcoal Air Filters
As you have probably heard the activated carbon filter is one with the prefilter. The prefilter is just thick media to capture large particles that find their way into the air purifier. They prevent the thicker air filters within (HEPA air filter) from being clogged up too quickly. The best part about these is the fact that you can wash them off with water or even vacuum them.
The activated carbon is used in various environments to remove odors and smells. You may find it in your fish tank or your water filter if you want to look. The important part for us is the fact it does the same thing in the air. If you have stinky trash, smoke or those darn baby diapers smelling up your house this will help considerably with that problem. Of course, there is something you should know. The amount of carbon in the air filter is small and it will run out sometime within 3 months. You cannot wash this clean. Once it is used up you need a new one.
Air Purifier HEPA Filter
My favorite part is the “True” HEPA air filter. When I say true it means it is an actual certified HEPA air filter that meets the qualifications. Many others will be HEPA-type or HEPA-like and they are not as good. True HEPA air filters stop 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns in size. If you think that a human hair is 10 microns you can guess how small this is. When you start catching things this small you really start to purify the air effectively. Even better is when you provide enough of this you can get this down to 0.1 microns or more like the IQ Air purifier. Conclusion The design of this Whirlpool air purifier is pretty simple, but yet it is well made. The combination of the prefilter, carbon filter and true HEPA air filter have made an air cleaner that is hard to beat. Many of other companies sell this combination for money and still don’t meet the CADR ratings. Some people use more or less media and that makes a big difference in the performance of the air filtration. If you are considering a nice home air purifier this will be the one you want if you don’t want to go broke and think you just bought a glorified fan.
